Poggio Lupo, Della Luna Merlot 2016

 

The wine estate Poggio Lupo is a young company founded from the dream of Massimo, Manuela and Marco Morgante.

The farm is located in the municipality of Allerona, in the province of Terni (Italy). The territory is characterized by the presence of clay-sandy soils comprising gray-blue clays, dating to the lower middle-sized pliocene. The vineyard stretches for about 32 hectares and is placed in a natural amphitheater with a south-eastern exposure that allows a great solar irradiation throughout the day.

The vineyard is made up of international varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Merlot Cabernet, Sauvignon and Petit verdot. The wines of Poggio Lupo derive from sustainable agriculture for a clientele attentive to the environmental issues in the search for products coming from a low impact agriculture and respectful of nature.

We tasted:

Della Luna Merlot 2016

It is a ruby red wine with purple shades. The olfactory bouquet features sweet spicy scents and red cherry and black berries. In the mouth is well balanced and of good persistence.

This wine is aged for 6 months in steel with batonnage on fine lees and for at least 3 months in bottle.

For the food pairing it is ideal with traditional Umbrian dishes like croutons with liver pans, salami, and semi-matured cheeses and with the stuffed cake (Capocollo, sausage, sausage and vegetables).

Chianti Classico Castello di Querceto Riserva

The Castello di Querceto and the land that surrounds it are rich in history. If in the past the Castello’s role was to stand guard on the via Cassia Imperiale, one of ancient Rome’s main ‘highways’ in order to defend its territory.

castello-di-querceto_riservaThe Castello di Querceto is today run by Alessandro and Antonietta François. Together they have worked to position the Castello’s wines within the top flight of Chianti’s producers.

The Castello’s vineyards are positioned on two sides of a valley: from the Passo del Sugame and, beyond Dudda, towards Lucolena and Monte San Michele.

The vines are trained in what, for Chianti, are the traditional methods: the horizontal Cordon spur trained onto wires at 60 cms, and the Guyot.

Sangiovese takes first place among the red varieties, but there are also smaller plantings of Canaiolo, Colorino, Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot. As for the whites, they are the traditional Malvasia del Chianti and Trebbiano Toscano, now joined also by Chardonnay.

The vines are grown with only two interests in mind: top quality grapes, and the ecological compatibility of their production.

We tasted: Chianti Classico Castello di Querceto Riserva 2013

The Chianti Classico Riserva is produced from a selection from all of the 60 hectares of vineyards. Of 90% Sangiovese, the remaining 10% is made up of Canaiolo and other traditional autochthonous red grape varieties.

The maturation is made in oak barrels for 10 -12 months and refinement in bottle for a minimum of 4 months.

 It is a brilliant ruby-red, very balanced, with soft and elegant body. In the nose appear notes of berries and liquorice. The food pairing matches perfectly with roasted meats and seasoned cheese.

Chardonnay from Ca’ San Vito

We are in the venetian foothills with its hills and plains near the rivers, fertile land and exclusive where the diversity of the earth and the wind is capable of giving valuable gifts and very different, such as Prosecco and Raboso.

This Chardonnay comes from the flood plains of the Piave river in the province of Treviso.Composed of 100% Chardonnay, this wine shows a straw yellow color with green reflections. The nose gives off an unexpected scent of roasted almonds, licorice and has a floral bouquet. In the mouth it mixes well to the palate is balanced and full-bodied. This wine with real potential, goes well with white meats, fish, fresh cheeses and generally with the classic Mediterranean dishes like pasta with tomato sauce and fresh basil or garlic bread.

The foot hills oft the Veneto is a region where the” being Venetian”is not just a question of territory, it is a way to do, to be passionate about the work quality-consciousness, pointing to the excellence of its wines.It is in this context that the men of the cantina Cà San Vito really use all their knowledge to give perfumes and flavors for a really DOC taste.
