Ca’ de’ Rocchi “Istà” becomes 100% Pinot Grigio delle Venezie

Tinazzi celebrates the creation of the new DOC appellation Pinot Grigio delle Venezie by changing the grape varieties of “Ca’ de’ Rocchi – Istà”, which now becomes 100% Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, accordingly with the guidelines of the newly created appellation.

The new DOC appellation brings together the Pinot Grigio producers of three major wine regions, Veneto, Trentino, and Friuli Venezia Giulia, and it aims at improving the quality of Pinot Grigio by decreasing the allowed production per hectare and bringing more value to the final product, which will be labelled as Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie.

As a result, “Ca’ de’ Rocchi – Istà” becomes 100% Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOP, changing its style, while keeping its traditional freshness and balance between fruit and minerality.

I veroni, Chianti Rufina Riserva Quona

The name I Veroni is derived from the wide terraces surrounding the farm where many years ago tobacco leaf and grain from the Arno valley was dried.  For some time, Lorenzo Mariani, the dedicated winemaker of the I Veroni vineyard in Chianti Rufina, near Florence, had been thinking about developing his wines and giving them new impetus. The new labels were presented for the two most famous wines of the farm, Chianti Rufina and Chianti Rufina Reserve. Both wines are now produced exclusively from the grapes of a single vineyard and are named after the origin.

Today the farm which lies in the Pontassieve Hills (240-280 meters), spreads over 50 hectares and is close to the church of S.Martino a Quona. The vineyards cover 15 hectares and 20 hectares are planted with olives.

I Veroni now has a dynamic range of 3 distinct Chianti Rufina wines which are true to the authentic character of the Sangiovese- Rufina tradition and 4 IGT wines : two red wines , a Rose’ and White blend .

We tasted: Chianti Rufina Riserva Quona 2014 DOCG

I Veroni Chianti Rufina Reserve is produced with a long fermentation with only selected Sangiovese , this wine is aged in French oak barrels of 500 litres for 16-18 months before being bottled and stored for a further period of 8-10 months.

The palate is full and velvety, with a well-integrated tannic component, long in the finish. Ideal in paring with pasta and risotto with meat sauces, red meat and seasoned cheese.

Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Silvio Nardi

We are in the picturesque town of Montalcino which still preserves its charm as an ancient medieval village. At the beginning of the 20th century, Montalcino was no more than a tranquil village of the Tuscan countryside: a few houses, shops and vineyards. The terrains of the Tenute Silvio Nardi have shared in the history this area.

The Tenuta is composed by Two estates, two slopes, West and East eight plots, several terroirs…
The finesse and identity that Sangiovese grosso expresses in each vineyard of the two estates, so different in their soils and climates, are undeniable.

Manachiara, exposed to the east where sun rises, offers full bodied and powerful wines.
Casale del Bosco, in the west side where sun goes down, offers elegant and complex wines.

We tasted: Brunello di Montalcino 2012

This Brunello composed of 100% Sangiovese is characterized by a ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose opens with an intense and complex bouquet, with hints of berries, anise  enriched with pleasant spicy notes and delicate hints of vanilla. On the palate it is pleasantly warm, with soft tannins. The wine has a great structure, with a notable persistence.

Perfect to accompany roasts and game, it is ideal paired with aged cheeses.
